Out of Your Element

Sunday, April 2 | 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM
Recommended for age 10+

This collection of animation is more suited to the mature youngster. The experience of sons and fathers comes into focus with playful, sensitive, and serious tones. Young cinephiles will leave the theatre with lots to talk about.

Made in Canada

Sunday, April 2 1:45 PM - 2:30 PM
Recommended for age 10+

Many of R2R’s programs feature Canadian talent, but this program is made entirely by Canadians! Some of these films have premiered at the world’s most prestigious festivals, while others highlight emerging talent worthy of keeping an eye on. The voices of girls and women often relegated to the sidelines. Celebrating a range of experiences, from pre-pubescence to maturity, these are our diverse female stories.

WORKSHOPS

Come for a day full of creative expression and hands-on activities. These animation workshops offer children and families the opportunity to spark a new shared interest, hone the ability to tell a simple story, and even learn to fly. All workshops are available with the purchase of a special day pass for $5, and are on a first-come first-serve basis. Please sign up upon arrival.

pixilation

Get animated! Choreographed by the instructor, you will glide, disappear and fly through the air. This is a great introduction to special effects and stop-motion animation.

objects in motion

Using everyday office and school supplies, kids will animate objects in new, interesting and imaginative ways.

cut-out animation

A variety of pre-fashioned and cut-out materials will be used to create characters and sets. In small groups, using video capture techniques, attendees will be taken through the steps of creating a short animation.

DIY hologram

A hands-on, family-style workshop that invites youth and adults to design their own 3D digital hologram projector using their smartphones!
